WOMAN SURVIVES IMPALING BY POST

ANDERSON, Ind.---
A woman survived being impaled by a 12 foot metal
fence post that pierced through her mouth and came
out the back of her neck in a car accident,
authorities said.
Emergency crews had to saw off part of the 1 1/2 inch
thick fence rail to free Alejandra Martinez, who was
still awake when crews arrived at the scene. Fire officials
were shocked to find her alive.
"Talk about having an angel as a co-pilot,"
Fire Chief J.R. Rosencrans said. "On her rearview
mirror she had a picture of the Madonna. You can tell
she is a very religious person."
Martinez, 28, was in critical condition late Monday,
recovering from surgery, officials said.
Earlier Monday, Marinez drove through a stop sign
at an intersection and hit another car, Anderson police
spokesman Terry Sollars said. She then lost control,
carrened off the road and went through a chain link fence.
The car hit a concrete porch shoving it three feet back.
Sollars said. The metal rod from the fence went through
the driver's side of the windshield, he said.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry blocked the execution of FRANCES NEWTON
two hours before she could have been put to death for the 1987
slayings of her husband and two young children. The four month
reprieve will allow for more testing of forensic evidence.
NEWTON, 30, would have been the first black womnan and the fourth
female put to death in Texas since the Civil War. She has denied
any involvement in the slayings.
A hospital in the Netherlands acknowledged it has already begun
euthanizing terminally ill newbornsunder that nation's
recently proposed mercy killing guidelines. Groningen Academic
Hospital announced protocol to create the legal framework for doctors
to end the life of newborns deemed in great pain and with no hope
for relief from incurable diseases or extreme deformities.
Elizabeth Miklosovic, 36, a teacher at South Haven's Baseline Middle
School, was arraigned on a charge of first-degree criminal sexual conduct
in Van Buren County. If convicted, Miklosovic faces a maximum
sentence of life in prison.
The student told a classmate about the
relationship and the classmate told school officials,
who placed the 7th grader language arts teacher on leave from work.
